PowerCord Jam in the Park(ing lot)

On Thursday, September 10, The Art Institute of Las Vegas, held PowerCord Jam in the campus parking lot. The event was designed to give students in the Bachelor of Science in Audio Production the opportunity to gain some real-world experience and hone their skills. Students set up, presented, recorded, and sound mixed and mastered a live concert, featuring talent from the campus. The result was a two hour concert that featured a jazz band, vocalists, a rock band, a rapper and a comedian. The audio students gained invaluable experience not only in running the entire production, but also in troubleshooting and thinking on their feet.

Join us in a career advancing opportunity for those that love Independent Music. The focus is not on the audience or the actual concert talent, but in the production of a live concert.

It's open to the public so you can invite your friends and family.

PowerCord Jam in the Park(ing lot) is a student concert with the focus on presenting the concern and learning those skills - not actually creating something for the audience. Student volunteers will set up, present, record and clean up a professionally managed opportunity that could eventually be used on resume and job interview opportunities.

Also note that this is a AILV school event with all the usual rules and regulations.

This week at SIGGRAPH - AILV Professor

Our own Michael Baker of the Art Institute of Las Vegas spoke this week at SIGGRAPH. Now in its 38th year, the SIGGRAPH conference is the premier international event on computer graphics and interactive techniques. The SIGGRAPH conference attracts the most respected technical and creative people from all over planet Earth.

Michael was on the panel titles Destruction and Dynamics for Film and Game Production. He spoke on Authoring Destruction with the Dynamica Bullet Maya Plugin. The course was focused on “rigid-body and particle simulation and collision techniques used in breaking objects and large-scale destruction. He gave a brief introduction to the basic theory, and then the course continued with examples from specific films and games. Other topics included production aspects such as authoring tools (including the open-source Bullet physics library used in both game and film production) and computational and algorithmic issues.”

Though organized by Advanced Micro Devices, other members of the presentation committee included people from DreamWorks Animation, Industrial Light & Magic and Disney Interactive Studios.

Welcome to Let's Roll - Project Management Winter 2011

Welcome to Let's Roll, the home of the unique infusion of eastern and western cuisine...on four wheels no less!. We're not just another food truck.. we are THE EVENT!

Every dish is made to order using only the freshest ingredients a chassy can carry.

Click on the Menu above to see what sell: Come taste the difference at Let's Roll!

The student an BUS251 Project Management Winter 2011 did a combination culinary, hospitality design project with elaborate graphic design elements! And the food by Peter Kim was TERRIFIC! He has excellent credentials - he was a chef at both the Bellagio and the Mirage for five years. Joe Browning did the graphic design and Magdalena Corbet did the clothing and business plan.

As usual, the time constraint were VERY tight, but the results were very impressive.

Here is the brief animation that Peter Kim (an animator AND a chef ) did to promote the Let's Roll Brand. Enjoy:

Movie Obsession Websites... WOW!

In the web marketing class, we apply marketing theories and strategies to the World Wide Web. Our goal is to identify the major distributors and online outlets for content in the present marketplace, delineate the various current models for making money on the Internet and the requirements for an effective Web site design.

This Spring, the following students did a great job on their projects. You can access their websites through their blogs.

Gail put her site on the AILV servers. Click here to see if it is still "Up and Running"

The Culinary Department and Project Management

This is the project that the students did in the Winter in Project Managment Class. I think they did a great job. They worked with the Cullinary Department to build a combination Cookbook and cooking DVD. The project was very elaborate and looked great, too. It included a website, videos and mock ups of the finished projects. The web content was created by Tamaki. Here is a snapshot of her talent:
Here is the cover of the book and here is Kent, the lead graphic designer.

Click here to see the other team members. They all worked very hard, and did a wonderful job. The Culinary Department - via Chef Pinkny - was very impressed!
